The start of roulette
Roulette is one of the all time classic casino games. The game has been enjoyed throughout the centuries in illegal gambling dens to glitzy Las Vegas resorts and fun casino hire venues. The French made up the game of roulette in the 17th century and the game rules have not changed much over that time. The game of Roulette remains one of the most popular games of choice for fun casino events
How do you play roulette?
Roulette is simple enough to understand and in-terms of the mechanics of the game, players pick it up extremely quickly. A few spins should be all you need if you’re a total beginner. Bet red or black for the first few spins and ask your dealer to explain the other possible bets. Ask about various positions of betting chips and the payouts available if the ball lands on your number. Now we will explain the basics of roulette
Roulette | The basics
If you are playing in a real casino or at a fun casino the fundamentals remain unchanged. Roulette is a table game, with a betting cloth laid across the table. The croupier operates the roulette wheel which is at the top of the table. Players place chips in the amount they want to bet onto the cloth layout, which indicated the various bets available. The croupier spins the ball around the numbered roulette wheel and the result is generated by the random settling of the ball in one of the numbered wells. The winners are paid out on the winning number and every other bet is a losing bet
What bets can I make?
Players can choose to bet on a single number, or anything up to nearly half the wheel, all from a single bet. The odds are set at differing levels depending on your bet type and how many numbers you bet on. The more precise bets pay out at a higher level. There are 37 numbered slots on the wheel and 36 are split between red numbers and black numbers. There is also single 0 on the european roulette wheel which is green. If it is American roulette there is also a double zeroand a zero slot, making the total slots 38. This is important, because it’s the zero slots that build in the house edge, which is the mathematical disadvantage players have to overcome to win
Bets & Payouts
There are numerous different types of bets available on the roulette wheel, covering various numbers and combinations. The more numbers your bet covers, the lower the payout you will receive. 1-1 are the even money bets, like red or black, 1-18, 19-36, or odd and even. You’ll recall that there are at least 37 numbers on the roulette wheel, 36, plus the zero. The additional zeros means the amount paid 36-1 for an outcome that has a 1 in 37 chance of coming good. This is the casino share and gives the house its edge
The main available bet types in roulette are as follows:
Odd/Even: pick whether the number is odd or even, for even money 1/1 returns.
High/Low: pick whether the number is low (1-18) or high (19-36), even money returns.
Red/Black: pick whether the number if red or black, even money returns.
Dozens: pick from the first, second or third dozen of the numbers numerically, 2/1 returns.
Columns: pick from one of the three number columns, 2/1 returns.
Straight Number: pick a single number, for returns of 36/1 when it lands.
Street: Bet on a trio of numbers by row, for returns of 11/1.
Split: Betting on two adjacent numbers on the layout, for a 17/1 return if either number comes up.
Corner: Split the bet four ways on the internal corner of any square of four numbers, for returns of 8/1.
Line: Similar to the Street bet, but covering two rows of 3 numbers, for 5/1 returns.
Basket: Specific bet on 0,1,2,3, for a payout of 6:1.
While there are other specific patterns and bets that can be deployed, these are by far the most common you’ll see played at any roulette table. It’s up to you how you choose to structure your bets, and it’s possible to opt for combinations of different types of bets on the same spin.
